Freedom of Mind: The Beliefs That Shape Our Reality
Most of us don’t realise we’re carrying it.
We wake up, go through our day, do what we’ve been taught to do. We try to be safe. Try to do well. Try to make sense of it all. But beneath that — beneath all the effort — there’s something else running the show:
Fear.
The world is full of it. Every headline, every conversation, every “what if” we play on repeat.
What if I lose my job? What if the economy collapses? What if I get sick? What if I fail?
Even death — the one certainty we all share — is framed as something to fight, avoid, or deny.
And so we live small. Not because we want to — but because we forget we have a choice.
But the truth is simple:
You are not your fear. You are not your thoughts.
You are the one who is aware of them.
And when you become aware of that — really aware — the whole world begins to shift.
The Power of Perspective
There is a quiet strength that arises when we stop identifying with every thought that passes through our mind.
Instead of being pulled by fear, or pushed by conditioning, we can rest in something deeper.
Something still.
Something wise.
And sometimes, we need a little help remembering that. Sometimes a few words — a fresh perspective — can crack open the door to freedom.
Over the years, there have been three books that did this for me. I don’t offer them as doctrine, but as quiet invitations — seeds for reflection and growth; perhaps to stir something in you, to re-examine long-held beliefs, or to gently expand your awareness.
Conversations with God – Neale Donald Walsch
This book doesn’t ask you to believe in God. It asks you to listen — and feel — as if the divine were speaking directly to you.
And the message?
You are not broken. You are not separate. You are creating your reality every moment — through your thoughts, your words, your energy.
“Life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation.”
The world you live in reflects who you believe yourself to be.
That means you are never stuck. Only unaware.
Once you become conscious of the beliefs shaping your life, you gain the power to choose differently.
And perhaps most beautifully — this book reminds us that the divine doesn’t judge us.
It experiences life through us.
Which means your joy, your sorrow, your triumphs and your doubts — they are all sacred.
The Untethered Soul – Michael A. Singer
There’s a voice in your head. You’ve been listening to it your entire life. It comments, it judges, it plans, it worries.
But here’s the shift:
You are not that voice.
You are the one who hears it.
The moment you realise this, you step into the seat of awareness. You stop being the actor, tossed around by the story, and become the witness — calm, steady, free.
From that place, life unfolds with clarity. There is nothing to control. Nothing to fear. Just the present moment, and your willingness to open to it.
Journey of Souls – Dr. Michael Newton
This book goes beyond the surface. It invites you to imagine that your soul is eternal — and that life, death, and everything in between is part of a much larger tapestry.
Through deep hypnosis sessions, people describe choosing their lives, reviewing their lessons, and reconnecting with soul groups. It’s not about karma or punishment. It’s about learning, healing, and evolving — together.
For me, this expanded my perspective in ways I couldn’t have predicted.
And when I’ve shared the audiobook version with people grieving a loss, they’ve come back with something simple but profound:
“It brought me peace.”
When we stop fearing death, we start honouring life.
My wife used to say, “When it’s my time, it’s my time.”
There was a quiet truth in that.
Not as an escape — but as an invitation to live fully, right now.
Living from Stillness
You are not here to survive the news cycle.
You are not here to shrink in the shadow of fear.
You are here to live — open-hearted, present, awake.
That means making peace with what is.
With the noise.
With the unknown.
Even with death.
When you do, you find there’s nothing left to resist. Only this moment. And in this moment, you are free.
These books aren’t meant to give you all the answers.
They’re meant to return you to a place where you can start asking better questions.
So if something in you feels ready — ready to stop reacting and start responding,
then maybe it’s time to sit quietly...
...and remember who you are.
Not the voice.
Not the fear.
But the stillness behind it all.
Books That Sparked My Own Journey
Here are the three books mentioned in this post — each one has helped me reshape how I see myself, life, and what's truly possible.
